and it always came as the same surprise.

she said to me as she looked away,
and rolled me a blanket alone on a shelf
while I questioned the wisdom of wanting to stay.

"I came to the city to do my own thing,"
she said to me while stifling a yawn.
While I certainly don't need to be anyone's king,
