lyrics

"I came to the city to be left alone,"
she said to me without any eyes.
Times like this she was cold as bone,
and it always came as the same surprise.

"I came to the city to be by myself,"
she said to me as she looked away,
and rolled me a blanket alone on a shelf
while I questioned the wisdom of wanting to stay.

"I came to the city to do my own thing,"
she said to me while stifling a yawn.
While I certainly don't need to be anyone's king,
it was suddenly clear I was somebody's pawn.
